FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
On this page you will find some answers to Frequently Asked Questions about how things work in my practice.
General questions
I’VE NEVER HAD COACHING OR THERAPY BEFORE – WHAT IS IT LIKE WORKING WITH YOU?
It can be nerve racking doing something new with an unknown person, particularly when the thing that you’re going to do touches the very heart of your being. I’m very aware that in coaching and in therapy you can feel vulnerable and I would like to assure you that I always work in a way that puts you at the centre of all decision-making. I will make sure that you can express yourself openly without feeling judged. I will encourage you to ask questions so that you can understand what we are doing. I will support you in identifying what is best for you.
CONFIDENTIALITY
All information shared with me in a session is completely confidential. For the purposes of clinical supervision, I might occasionally need to share some details of our work together in a professional context and without mentioning your name or any identifying details.
HOW DO I BOOK MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?
Please go to my BOOK AN APPOINTMENT page. You will also find details of cost on the Fees page and location on the Location page.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
That is a question that is not possible to answer because it depends upon what your requirements are and your response to the coaching and how you are able to absorb and adapt the new strategies and techniques. In respect of therapy, it depends upon how much you want to explore your needs, hopes and wishes. It can be helpful to think in terms of up to 6 sessions giving you a clear idea of how the coaching or therapy is working for you. But perhaps the most important point to make is that it is entirely your choice to book appointments and it is important that you choose what feels right for you.
HOW OFTEN DO I HAVE TO BOOK A SESSION?
The answer to this question is that the frequency of sessions is entirely your choice. I would not pressure you to make an appointment, and the timing of an appointment will depend on your schedule and circumstances.
WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL OR RE-ARRANGE A SESSION, OR IF I ARRIVE LATE?
It is important that you give at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Without adequate notice, I reserve the right to charge the full fee for a missed or cancelled session.
Please aim to arrive a few minutes early or on time for the appointment. If you are late, we will work with the remaining time of the session and you will be charged the full fee.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?
In the first coaching appointment we would look at your diagnostic report – if you have one – and use that as the basis of a discussion to plan which skills and strategies you want to develop. If you don’t have a report, we can still have that discussion based on your own analysis of your needs and development. The first session is a good opportunity for both of us to get an understanding of how each other works. We can also discuss specific skills if that is appropriate or preferred in that first session.
Questions about body therapies - Upledger Craniosacral Therapy, Peter Hess® Sound Massage, Sharon Wheeler’s Scarwork™ Therapy
WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?
In your first body therapy appointment we will talk through the simple medical and personal details that you will have completed on the form that was emailed to you in advance. We will also talk through your aims and hopes from the sessions and any of your questions. You will then be asked to take off your shoes and to lie on the comfortable treatment couch. CranioSacral Therapy and Peter Hess® Sound Massage are both full-clothed therapies.
Only for Sharon Wheeler’s Scarwork™ Therapy would you need to remove some of your clothes, depending on which part of your body we are working on.
